Selecting A/C Efficiency Air conditioners have different efficiency ratings which are indicated in SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). The higher the SEER number, the more efficient the unit. Higher efficiency air conditioners produce the same amount of cooling as lower efficiency units of the same size, but the difference is that the higher efficiency units use less electricity to do so, thereby saving you money (see chart). 10 SEER is the lowest efficiency rating available nowadays, although it is still significantly higher than older air conditioner efficiencies which are sometimes as low as 5 SEER. If you currently have an air conditioner and would like to know what efficiency SEER you have, you can use our Efficiency Estimator Tool to find out. We have 4 different SEER levels for you to select from for your air conditioner, from 10 SEER up to 14 SEER. The higher the SEER, the higher the initial investment cost of the air conditioner, but the lower the operating cost. Which SEER unit you decide to install is up to you. To help you select, you can use our AC Efficiencies Comparison Calculator here to see how much you might save in operating costs by comparing different SEER units for your particular home.
