A variable speed air handler operates similarly to a standard air handler with an added feature: a variable speed blower. This extra feature allows the air handler to cool (or heat with optional heater coil) the home with a varying flow of air, instead of a stronger on/off flow of air as with a standard model. This function increases comfort by reducing uneven temperatures in the home, lowering operating noise, saving money on electrical utility usage, decreasing humidity levels in the summer when operating air conditioning, increasing air conditioning effeciency, and increasing any attached air filtration products' effectiveness.
