SpacePak is a high-velocity central air conditioning system which utilizes a conventional outdoor condensing unit or heat pump matched with the indoor Model ESP-E air handler unit to provide conditioned air through the specially-designed, pre-fabricated, pre-insulated flexible duct system. The system and its basic components operate the same as in any conventional air-to-air cooling system. This model is intended to be installed horizontaly, and can be located nearly anywhere - attics (fits up through 16"-on center ceiling joist), basements, crawlspaces and garages.

The SpacePak ESP-EH2 Series High-Velocity Air Handlers are suitable for use with R-22 refrigerant only. To see which outdoor units are compatible with this air handler, please click on the "Accessories" tab above.

SpacePak makes it possible to install central cooling and heating in any home or business, regardless of structure design, age, size or type of construction. SpacePak is an air distribution system which uses a principle known as aspiration - as the air stream enters the room, it creates a gentle mixing of air in the room to provide thorough, comfortable draft-free air circulation. SpacePak eliminates stratification with a minimum floor-to-ceiling temperature difference.

  • Six-row copper tube-aluminum fin evaporator coil removes up to 30% more humidity than conventional coil.
  • Blower motor is factory-balanced for vibration-free operation.
  • Primary and secondarydrain connections (3/4" FPT) in durable, polyethylene primary drain pan meet International Mechanical Code 307.2.3.
  • Factory supplied primary condensate drain assembly.
  • Factory-assembled, pre-wired control center with high and low voltage terminal blocks, blower relay and low voltage transformer.
  • Factory-installed anti-frost control and thermal expansion valve. Standard factory-installed primary drain pan float switch. Sweat type suction/liquid line connections.
  • Schrader valve and refigerant lines extend through end of cabinet.
  • Can be installed with a conventional outdoor condensing unit as long as capacity and refrigerant line connections meet SpacePak recommendations.
  • Shipped with Nitrogen holding charge.

Configuration

Configuration is the direction the conditioned air will pass through the unit.

Upflow units will have the air come in from the bottom and blow out the top.

Horizontal units will have the air go through the unit left to right, or right to left.

Downflow units will have the air come in from the top of the unit, and blow out the bottom.

Blower Cooling Capacity

The tonnage of air conditioning that can be moved effectively by the blower. You want to make sure that the blower is appropriately sized for the air conditioner. If it is too small the coil could ice up. If it is too large than the air coming out of the ducts won't be cold enough.

Refrigerant

Inside air conditioning systems are liquid/gas refrigerant. There are two types of this refrigerant available for use, R-22 (more commonly known as Freon), and a newer alternative R-410A.

An air conditioning system does not consume refrigerant, but reuses it. As long as there are no leaks in the refrigerant circuit, there is no need to ever add more refrigerant to an air conditioning system.

Although R-22 is an effective refrigerant, if it is released into the atmosphere it can contribute to the depletion of the Earth’s ozone layer. The EPA has mandated the phasing out the use of R-22. It is being replaced by R-410A.

As of 2010, manufacturers are required to make all new air conditioners with R-410A. However, R-22 is still available for sale in existing pre-2010-manufactured equipment, and for use in servicing existing R-22 equipment. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be manufactured, but will still be recycled and available for sale.
