Haier's Multi-Position Air Handlers are designed to be paired with split-system air conditioners and heat pumps.  They are durable, efficient, and allow for flexible installations since they can be used in an upflow, downflow, or horizontal right / left application.  Quiet, dynamically balanced blower wheels and a multi-speed fan motor minimize noise and enhance comfort.

These air handlers can operate with an air conditioner or heat pump in 2.5 ton or 3.0 ton.

This unit comes ready for use with 3.0 ton outdoor equipment that operates with R-22 refrigerant. To use the air handler with 2.5 ton R-22 outdoor equipment, replace the orifice in the air handler with this one. This air handler can also be used with R-410A outdoor equipment by changing the orifice inside the air handler. To do so, use this orifice for 2.5 ton R-410A equipment, or use this orifice for 3.0 ton R-410A equipment. If an orfice is included with the purchase of your outdoor equipment, install that orifice into the air handler instead. Configuration

Configuration is the direction the conditioned air will pass through the unit.

Upflow units will have the air come in from the bottom and blow out the top.

Horizontal units will have the air go through the unit left to right, or right to left.

Downflow units will have the air come in from the top of the unit, and blow out the bottom.

Blower Cooling Capacity

The tonnage of air conditioning that can be moved effectively by the blower. You want to make sure that the blower is appropriately sized for the air conditioner. If it is too small the coil could ice up. If it is too large than the air coming out of the ducts won't be cold enough.

Refrigerant

Inside air conditioning systems are liquid/gas refrigerant. There are two types of this refrigerant available for use, R-22 (more commonly known as Freon), and a newer alternative R-410A.

An air conditioning system does not consume refrigerant, but reuses it. As long as there are no leaks in the refrigerant circuit, there is no need to ever add more refrigerant to an air conditioning system.

Although R-22 is an effective refrigerant, if it is released into the atmosphere it can contribute to the depletion of the Earth’s ozone layer. The EPA has mandated the phasing out the use of R-22. It is being replaced by R-410A.

As of 2010, manufacturers are required to make all new air conditioners with R-410A. However, R-22 is still available for sale in existing pre-2010-manufactured equipment, and for use in servicing existing R-22 equipment. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be manufactured, but will still be recycled and available for sale.

Blower Type

There are three main type of blowers: Multi-Speed, High-Efficiency Multi-Speed, and Variable Speed.

Standard Multi-Speed blowers have different speed options and you select the speed that the blower will operate at depending on the function it is performing (ex. different speeds for fan, AC, and heating functions).

High-Efficiency Multi-Speed blowers are designed to maintain a constant torque and in doing so will maintain air-flow and use less electricity.

Variable Speed blowers will adjust their speed during operation. The result is a blower that will run at lower speeds for longer periods of time (this improves the air flow and increases electrical efficiency).
