The Amana AMVC9/ACVC9 multi-position condensing gas furnace with two-stage heating and variable-speed circulating blower reduces operating costs and advances home comfort by eliminating temperature swings and stratification from floor-to-ceiling and room-to-room. The Amana AMVC9/ACVC9 variable-capacity furnace smoothly ramps up or down – based on the demands of the home – to keep temperature consistent at all times. The Amana AMVC9/ACVC9 multi-position, variable-speed gas furnace features a patented stainless steel tubular heat exchanger and energy-efficient hot surface ignition system. These furnaces are run-tested for heating or combination heating/cooling applications. With a corrosion-resistant, painted steel cabinet, these heaters can be installed in a utility room, closet, alcove, basement or attic. Configuration

Configuration is the direction the conditioned air will pass through the unit.

Upflow units will have the air come in from the bottom and blow out the top.

Horizontal units will have the air go through the unit left to right, or right to left.

Downflow units will have the air come in from the top of the unit, and blow out the bottom.

Blower Cooling Capacity

The tonnage of air conditioning that can be moved effectively by the blower. You want to make sure that the blower is appropriately sized for the air conditioner. If it is too small the coil could ice up. If it is too large than the air coming out of the ducts won't be cold enough.

The maximum amount of heat that the unit can produce. The amount delivered into the space will be the input minus the efficiency loss also know as the output. For example a 100000 btu furnace at 80% efficiency will give you 80000 out btus of heat. The same size furnace at 95% will give you 95000 btus of heat.

Blower Type

There are three main type of blowers: Multi-Speed, High-Efficiency Multi-Speed, and Variable Speed.

Standard Multi-Speed blowers have different speed options and you select the speed that the blower will operate at depending on the function it is performing (ex. different speeds for fan, AC, and heating functions).

High-Efficiency Multi-Speed blowers are designed to maintain a constant torque and in doing so will maintain air-flow and use less electricity.

Variable Speed blowers will adjust their speed during operation. The result is a blower that will run at lower speeds for longer periods of time (this improves the air flow and increases electrical efficiency).

Burner Stages

A single stage furnace has one heat setting. The furnace is either on at full capacity or it is off.

A two stage furnace has two different heat settings; one full capacity and a second lower heat setting. The advantage of a two stage furnace is that it extends the run time which does a better job distributing the air in your home. This helps improve your homes comfort level while reducing drafty areas.

A modulating furnace will heat on a low capacity until a call for high heat is sent to the furnace. Once a high heat call is initiated the furnace will slowly increase the burner level and blower speed over time, until reaching full capacity. The advantages are potentially reduced noise and better efficiency in some models. A modulating furnace should provide the best comfort level.
