Quick answers to the most common Wi-Fi setup and connectivity questions for your mini split system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2705 Before You Start<\/h3>\n

Before troubleshooting, make sure all three of these are true:<\/p>\n

\u2610<\/span>I’m connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network<\/strong> \u2014 Smart HVAC units only work on 2.4 GHz. If your router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz one before starting setup.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2610<\/span>My app has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location permissions turned on<\/strong> \u2014 The app needs all three to discover your unit. If any were skipped during install, go to your phone’s Settings \u2192 Apps to enable them.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2610<\/span>My router is within reasonable range of my unit<\/strong> \u2014 Your unit’s built-in Wi-Fi antenna is much smaller than the one in your phone. Even if your phone gets a signal, the unit may not. Keep the router as close as possible or use a Wi-Fi extender.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Common Wi-Fi Issues<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Q<\/span>
\nThe app setup freezes near the end and then fails. What’s going on?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

If the progress bar gets close to finishing (around 69%) and then throws an error, the most likely cause is a weak Wi-Fi signal<\/strong> at your unit’s location. You may also see “Error Code 1.”<\/p>\n

What to try:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/span>Check where your router is located. If it’s on a different floor or several rooms away, that’s likely the problem.<\/div>\n
2<\/span>Try temporarily moving your router closer to the unit to confirm the issue is signal strength.<\/div>\n
3<\/span>If moving the router isn’t an option, consider adding a Wi-Fi range extender<\/strong> near the unit.<\/div>\n
4<\/span>If you’re setting up multiple units, start with the one closest to the router<\/strong> first.<\/div>\n
Good to know:<\/strong> The Wi-Fi antenna inside your HVAC unit is much smaller than the one in your phone. Even if your phone shows a strong signal, the unit may not be able to connect reliably \u2014 especially on the 2.4 GHz band.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Q<\/span>
\nMy unit doesn’t show up when I search for it in the app.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

There are two common reasons your unit won’t appear during the device search:<\/p>\n

1. The unit isn’t in Wi-Fi pairing mode.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make sure the unit is powered off, then press the Wi-Fi button on the unit (usually a few times) until you hear a beep. This puts it into pairing mode. Then try the search again.<\/p>\n

2. The app doesn’t have the right permissions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you first install the app, it asks for access to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and your location. If any of these were skipped or denied, the app can’t find your unit.<\/p>\n

The quickest fix:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/span>Delete the app from your phone.<\/div>\n
2<\/span>Reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play.<\/div>\n
3<\/span>When prompted, allow all permissions<\/strong> (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location).<\/div>\n
4<\/span>Put your unit back into pairing mode and try the search again.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Midea Air<\/span><\/p>\n

Midea Air App & Connectivity<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Q<\/span>
\nThe Midea Air app fails at 99%. Why does it get so close and then stop?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

A failure at 99% is usually caused by one of two things:<\/p>\n

1. Your phone’s mobile data is interfering.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Turn off mobile\/cellular data on your phone and try the setup process again. Your phone’s data connection can conflict with the Wi-Fi pairing process.<\/p>\n

2. You’re connected to a 5 GHz network or the signal is too weak.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/span>Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and make sure you’re connected to the 2.4 GHz<\/strong> network (often labeled with “2.4G” or without “5G” in the name).<\/div>\n
2<\/span>If signal strength is the issue, move your router closer to the unit or use a Wi-Fi extender.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Q<\/span>
\nWhere is the Wi-Fi adapter located on my Midea unit?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

Low Wall Mount Units<\/strong> \u2014 Look for a small clear cover on the unit. Remove it to find the adapter plug underneath.<\/p>\n

Mid-Static (BMM) Units<\/strong> \u2014 The adapter plug is behind the display cover, which is attached to the unit’s flip-up door. This cover is held in place with a screw and a couple of clips. Once removed, the plug is right there.<\/p>\n

Standard (BM) Units<\/strong> \u2014 The adapter plug is positioned directly on the flip-up door for easy access.<\/p>\n

Ceiling Cassettes, Floor\/Ceiling & Concealed Duct Units:<\/strong> These use a different adapter that plugs into a port labeled CN40 on the main control board inside the unit. If you’re not comfortable accessing the main board, we recommend contacting a qualified technician.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Gree+<\/span><\/p>\n

Gree+ App & Connectivity<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\nI can’t find my Gree unit in the app. What should I do?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

The most common reason is missing app permissions. Make sure the Gree+ app has both Bluetooth\/Wi-Fi access<\/strong> and Location<\/strong> turned on in your phone’s settings, then restart the setup process.<\/p>\n

If it still doesn’t show up, try connecting manually:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1<\/span>Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings<\/strong> (not the Gree app).<\/div>\n
2<\/span>Look for a network with a random 8-character name (a mix of numbers and letters) \u2014 this is your unit broadcasting its own signal.<\/div>\n
3<\/span>Connect to that network. When asked for a password, enter: 12345678<\/strong><\/div>\n
4<\/span>Go back into the Gree+ app and follow the on-screen steps to finish adding the unit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Q<\/span>
\nThe Gree+ app fails at 49%. How do I fix this?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

A failure at 49% means the app hasn’t successfully connected to your unit’s built-in Wi-Fi signal yet. This usually means the unit’s password hasn’t been entered or was entered incorrectly.<\/p>\n

1<\/span>Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings<\/strong>.<\/div>\n
2<\/span>Find the network with a random 8-character name (letters and numbers).<\/div>\n
3<\/span>Connect to it using the default password: 12345678<\/strong><\/div>\n
4<\/span>Go back to the Gree+ app and restart the setup process.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nThe Gree+ app fails at 69%. What’s happening?<\/span><\/div>\n

A failure at 69% points to a problem with your home Wi-Fi network<\/strong> rather than the unit itself. The two most common causes are:<\/p>\n

1<\/span>You’re on a 5 GHz network.<\/strong> These units only support 2.4 GHz. Switch to your 2.4 GHz network and try again.<\/div>\n
2<\/span>The signal is too weak.<\/strong> Move your router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender.<\/div>\n
Quick test:<\/strong> Turn on your phone’s mobile hotspot, set it to 2.4 GHz, and try connecting your unit to the hotspot instead of your home Wi-Fi. If it works, you’ll know the issue is with your home network’s signal or frequency band.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nMy Gree unit was connected before but now it’s offline.<\/span><\/div>\n

If your unit was working and has gone offline, check these things first:<\/p>\n

Has your Wi-Fi changed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you got a new router, changed your internet provider, or updated your Wi-Fi password, the unit is still trying to connect to the old network. You’ll need to delete the unit from the Gree+ app and set it up again with your new network information.<\/p>\n

Has your router been moved?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the router was physically relocated, the signal at your unit’s location may now be too weak to maintain a connection. Try moving the router back or adding a Wi-Fi extender near the unit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nWhere is the Wi-Fi adapter on my Gree unit?<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

On most Gree wall-mount units, the Wi-Fi adapter is located under the flip-up cover on the right side of the unit<\/strong>, near the top. A wire runs from the adapter to the unit’s main board.<\/p>\n
